Week 11 Ski And Snowboard Course Review – Big White 2012

It is hard to find the right words to describe the past 11 weeks, but amazing, epic and outstanding are a few that come to mind.

Now that Level 2 exams are over all the guys and girls have a well deserved rest after hitting a 100% pass record for level 1 and 2. This last week has been a time to free ski and snowboard and do what they want to do throughout the day. This consisted of mainly having a lay in and then hitting the snow. We have been very lucky with the weather towards the last few days of the week with a few cm’s of fresh snow in the morning followed by bright sunny afternoons. Excellent conditions.

Last Meal | NothinButSnow

Wednesday night we all went for our group meal, as everybody would be leaving on the Friday. This was a great chance to all eat together for the last time and hand out a few novelty awards. It was a lot of fun and we all had a laugh thinking back on memorable events. After smashing back a chicken, rice and vegetable dish followed by this peanut butter ice cream/cheesecake desert (which was incredible) we all headed for a few drinks to finish up in style.

East Peak Hike | NothinButSnow

It was now also a much better idea to go as crazy as you want in the park, most of the students had hit the park before but took it easy as they did not want to pick up an injury before the level 2 exam. Now it was after the course a few of the students wasted no time in going big on the jumps and their spins. Our rep Leigh took a few of the guys on a little hiking mission to the top of East Peak. An of piste section of Big White that is about a 10 to 15 min hike from the Cliff chair. This was a great end to the course with our student Dan saying ‘This is the perfect end to a perfect season’. After getting fresh tracks the whole way down everyone was knackered so it was straight home for what would be the last hot tub of the season.

Beer in the sun | NothinButSnow

With the sun making an appearance it was nice to sit outside and have a beer with lunch and soak up the sunshine. A great perk to the end of the season.

It has not been all resting and chilling though as Billy our 11 week ski student is working with our rep everyday on his snowboarding as he wants to get qualified as a Level 1 snowboard instructor to add to his already impressive Level 1 and 2 ski qualification. This means they have been getting the mileage on his board up and working on his technique to make sure he is at the standard to pass his Level 1, good luck Billy. Not ‘if’, but ‘when’ he passes he will join our other student Simon to have picked up 3 qualifications this winter. A great achievement.

So Friday arrived and everyone had their bags packed and were waiting to be picked up to head off to the airport. It was a sad time, and the resort will not be the same now they have gone. They should all be very proud of themselves and what they have achieved this winter. They all worked so hard and each one of them deserves the qualifications they achieved. We wish everyone the best of luck for the future and expect to see some of those faces again next season.
